JOB SPECIFICATION

This Job Description may be adjusted by the Headteacher according to the changing needs of the school. This post is subject to the conditions of employment contained in the Jebel Ali School contract and to work in line with new COVID guidelines in supporting students and staff.

 

Role Summary:

To carry out the professional duties of a Sports Coach as circumstances may require and in accordance with the school's policies under the direction of the Principal and to work in line with new COVID guidelines in supporting students and staff.

 

Role Responsibilities:

Administrative:

  • Arrange and confirm fixtures, according to facility and resources availability.

  • Assisting with the organisation, planning, and running of events such as Sports Day, Sports Awards, House Competitions, Health Day, Dubai 30/30 Fitness Challenge, and Open Evenings.  

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and training. 

  • Liaise with the site team for PE requirements.

  • Create and update PE noticeboards.

  • Assist with promoting sport at Jebel Ali School through social media, reviews to SLT, and reports for bulletins. 

Curriculum Responsibilities:

  • Work with and assist teachers across all key stages. 

  • Support with preparation of equipment for lessons. 

  • Cover lessons during staff absence.

Extra-curricular Responsibilities:

  • Independently run clubs across Primary and Secondary, before, during and after school.  

  • Attend fixtures with JAS staff across Primary and Secondary. 

  • Assist with admin regarding team sheets and arrangements for fixtures. 

  • Be willing to take on extra responsibility to assist/officiate sports teams/fixtures. 

 

Resources/Facility Management:

  • Audit and stock the PE equipment cupboards.

  • Assist with the PE orders and organising new equipment. 

  • Setup and/or dismantle equipment and report and/or action repair of any faults. 

  • Maintain an inventory and manage the loaning of sports kits.

Other duties and responsibilities:

Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task undertaken may not be identified. The post holder is expected to comply with any reasonable request from the Leadership Team to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description. This job description may be amended at any time following discussion between the HT/Line Manager and will be reviewed regularly.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Required:

  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent.

  • A-level qualifications. 

  • Effective knowledge of, and use of ICT.

  • Experience working or volunteering in a sports environment. 

  • Maintain good working relationships with all colleagues. 

  • Able to follow instructions from the line manager. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.

  • Proactive and often demonstrates initiative.

 

Preferred:

  • Sport-specific coaching qualifications.

  • Lifeguarding experience.

  • Basic First Aid experience. 

  • Experience working in the education sector. 

  • Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding policies

  • Prior experience in swimming, football, rugby, netball, or basketball.

  • Keen sportsman/woman.  

 

To whom responsible: Operating procedures will be agreed upon by the Principal, Facilities Manager, and Director of Sport. This will be a case-by-case agreement.
