SAFEGUARDING

At JAS we believe that every child has the right to feel safe and protected from harm, regardless of ability, ethnicity, faith, gender, sexuality, and culture. We recognise that JAS is in a unique position of primary responsibility for the safety, care, and welfare of students in its charge. To fulfill the duty to care, JAS commits to embedding safeguarding policies, procedures, and guidelines into the overall operations of the school.

As stated in Every Child Matters 2003, and The Children Act 2004, the aims of JAS are for every child, whatever their background or circumstances, to have the support they need to:

  • be healthy

  • stay safe

  • enjoy and achieve

  • make a positive contribution, and

  • achieve economic well-being

Our designated Safeguarding Officers (seen below) ensure that JAS follows strict procedures and processes to safeguard the children in our care. They can be contacted at any time with queries, questions or concerns.

All staff have a responsibility for the safeguarding of all children. Safeguarding policies, procedures and guidelines will be administered and review by our JAS Safeguarding Officers, with regular reporting on safeguarding issues to the Board of Governors.

Other ways we foster and uphold a safe environment for our students:

  • A caring and nurturing school environment

  • Strong relationships and mutual respect between staff, parents and students

  • Adults act as role models to children.

  • Clear guidelines and expectations are set for the students.

  • Bespoke wellbeing and life skills curriculum.

  • A Moral Education curriculum.

  • ‘No Fail’ culture that allows children to make mistakes and learn from them.

  • A restorative approach to managing difficult situations.

  • Student support services including the Inclusion Team, School Counsellor, Options and Aspirations Advisor, and a strong Pastoral leadership team.
