JOB SPECIFICATION

To be read in conjunction with the Primary Class Teacher Vacancy.

 

This Job Description may be adjusted by the Headteacher according to the changing needs of the school. This post is subject to the conditions of employment contained in the Jebel Ali School contract and to work in line with new COVID guidelines in supporting students and staff.

 

Role Summary: To carry out the professional duties of a Head of Year. These duties are in addition to the responsibilities detailed in the general class teacher description.

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the year group/team, including induction of new staff.

  • To lead planning of the curriculum/curricular delivery, assessment and reporting to ensure continuity and progression and maximise achievement for all children.

  • To annually update the curriculum and assessment overview for the Year Group, ensuring consistency with school policies and relevant curricular documentation.

  • To monitor and evaluate the work of the year group team and the learning environment through classroom observations, book monitoring and analysis of assessment results and lead Performance Management as per the JAS Performance Management Policy.

  • To take an active role in the dissemination of good practice, acting as a positive role model.

  • To plan educational visits for the Year Group, including carrying out risk assessments.

  • To organise and administer Year Group meetings on a regular and frequent basis, including relevant agendas and accurate minutes

  • To liaise with the School Administrator and SLT, as required, with regards to pupil entry and induction procedures within the Year Group.

  • To contribute to school improvement via the SIP/SEF, ensuring implementation of all school policies and improvement initiatives.

  • To prepare reports/presentations, as requested, for the Senior Management Team and/or Board of Governors.

  • To actively seek to encourage and develop parental partnership initiatives.

Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task undertaken may not be identified. The post holder is expected to comply with any reasonable request from the Leadership Team to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description. This job description may be amended at any time following discussion between the HT/Line Manager and will be reviewed regularly.
