DISCOVERY & GROWTH

Children are most successful when they are happy and engaged in their learning. We create a stimulating Primary school environment in which all our students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

We know that student’s wellbeing and academic success go hand in hand. JAS has a strong culture of community, care and support, driven by wonderful relationships built on trust and respect amongst staff, students and parents. These genuine relationships allow us to get to know our students as individuals to allow us to personalise their learning experience. We provide our children with exciting and interesting opportunities to support them as they discover their individuality while securing their sense of belonging. Through our innovative curriculum, students develop a sense of social responsibility an develop the skills and confidence to prepare them for future success in school and beyond.

PRIMARY

Key Stage 1

(Years 1 and 2)

In Key Stage 1 we build on the momentum of the Early Years Foundation Stage programme with a broad learning syllabus and a holistic approach to academic and personal growth.

The Primary school curriculum is delivered using a concept-based teaching model that encourages children to make connections across their learning and to the world around them. English, Maths and Science are core subjects and the central pillar of our robust academic programme. During English, students develop literacy skills and cover all aspects of language and communication. Our Mathematics curriculum provides students with the opportunity to explore numbers, recognise patterns and develop problem-solving and reasoning skills. Science all around us, and our students enjoy gaining knowledge and deepening their ability to work scientifically.

KS1

We also integrate Social, Moral and Cultural Studies into our Primary school curriculum with a lively syllabus that helps children to learn and understand more about the UAE’s culture and its place within the broader context of world affairs. Ongoing teacher assessment ensures each child’s progress is closely monitored against personal learning targets. Daily reviews of individual progress are the basis upon which personal targets are adjusted as each child progresses through Primary school.

Key Stage 2

(Years 3 to 6)

In Key stage 2, we recognise the children’s increasing maturity as learners and adapt our curriculum accordingly to develop and encourage more complex subject matter, research skills and enquiry methods.

Our curriculum is still organised around core concepts allowing students to develop a deep understanding of the ‘big ideas’ linking areas of the curriculum to a range of local and global themes, historical and contemporary, to encourage academic achievement as well as developing effective and responsible world citizens. Our core subjects ensure a robust academic programme. We also provide comprehensive opportunities for children to excel in sports and music through the main and extra-curricular programmes provided by our specialist teachers. We aim to ensure that as many children as possible have the opportunity to participate and to represent their school.
