JOB SPECIFICATION

This Job Description may be adjusted by the Headteacher according to the changing needs of the school. This post is subject to the conditions of employment contained in the Jebel Ali School contract and to work in line with new COVID guidelines in supporting students and staff.

 

Role Summary:

Inclusion learning assistants in collaboration with the SENCO support the class teachers in meeting the needs, educational and social, of all children at Jebel Ali School. 

 

Role Responsibilities:

Supporting The Student

  • To develop knowledge of a range of learning support needs relevant to the school.

  • To develop an understanding of the specific needs of the students to be supported.

  • To aid the students to learn as effectively as possible in a whole class setting, group setting and as an individual.

For example

  • Clarifying and explaining instructions.

  • Ensuring the student is able to use necessary equipment.

  • Motivating and encouraging the student/s.

  • Assisting in specific areas of weakness, such as speech and language or writing tasks.

  • Helping students to concentrate on and complete work set.

  • Developing appropriate resources to support the student/s.

  • Assisting in the management of students’ social interactions and behaviour.

  • To establish a supportive relationship with the students concerned.

  • To establish acceptance and inclusion of students in the classroom.

  • To manage students as advised by the SENCo and subject teacher.

  • To use methods of promoting and reinforcing the students’ self esteem.

  • To ensure the safety of students within your care.

  • To carry out specific duties as outlined in the students’ passports.

Supporting The Class Teacher

  • In collaboration with the SENCo assist the class teacher to develop a suitable programme of support and strategies to move the learning forward within the classroom or within a withdrawal situation.

  • To maintain the Inclusion team’s system of recording and monitoring students’ progress.

  • To provide feedback about students’ difficulties and/or progress as requested by the SENCo and class teacher.

  • To write reports about the students’ progress as requested by the SENCo.

  • To participate in the evaluation of the support programme, with the SENCo and class teacher.

  • To help adapt/ find differentiated materials to enable students to access the curriculum.

  • To report any problems about arrangements or incidents to the SENCo.

Supporting The School

  • To liaise, advise and consult with other members of the Inclusion team.

  • To participate in relevant professional development.

  • To be aware of and follow school policies and procedures.

  • To maintain confidentiality about home-school / student – teacher / school work matters.

  • To complete any other task as directed by the Head teacher / SENCo.

Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task undertaken may not be identified. The post holder is expected to comply with any reasonable request from the Leadership Team to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description. This job description may be amended at any time following discussion between the HT/Line Manager and will be reviewed regularly.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Required:

  • Minimum of 2 A’levels or equivalent

  • Must be on spouse or dependent visa as no sponsorship/visa is provided.

 Preferred:

  • Previous experience within an Inclusion/Learning Support department

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive approach to both individual and collaborative professional development.
