Sunday to Wednesday: 7:30 to 15:30

Thursday: 7:30 to 13:55

 

This Job Description may be adjusted by the Headteacher according to the changing needs of the school. This post is subject to the conditions of employment contained in the Jebel Ali School contract and to work in line with new COVID guidelines in supporting students and staff.

Role Summary:

Inclusion learning assistants in collaboration with the SENCO support the class teachers in meeting the needs, educational and social, of all children at Jebel Ali School. 

 

Role Responsibilities:

Supporting the Pupil

  • To develop knowledge of a range of learning support needs relevant to the school.

  • To develop an understanding of the specific needs of the pupils to be supported.

  • To aid the pupils to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and individually, inside and outside of the classroom.

For example

  • Clarifying and explaining instructions.

  • Ensuring the pupil is able to use necessary equipment.

  • Motivating and encouraging the pupil/s.

  • Assisting in specific areas of weakness, such as speech and language or writing tasks.

  • Helping pupils to concentrate on and complete work set.

  • Developing appropriate resources to support the pupil/s.

  • Assisting in the management of pupils’ social interactions and behaviour.

  • To establish a supportive relationship with the pupils concerned.

  • To establish acceptance and inclusion of pupils in the classroom.

  • To manage pupils as advised by the SENCo and subject teacher.

  • To use methods of promoting and reinforcing the pupils’ self-esteem.

  • To ensure the safety of pupils within your care.

  • To carry out specific duties as outlined in the pupils’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

 

Supporting the SENCO and Subject Teacher

  • To assist the SENCo to develop a suitable programme of support and then carry out the programme, within the classroom or within a withdrawal situation.

  • To maintain the Learning Support team’s system of recording and monitoring pupils’ progress.

  • To provide feedback about pupils’ difficulties and/or progress as requested by the SENCo and subject teacher.

  • To write reports about the pupils’ progress as requested by the SENCo.

  • To participate in the evaluation of the support programme, with the SENCo and subject teacher.

  • To help adapt/ find differentiated materials to enable pupils to access the curriculum.

  • To report any problems about arrangements or incidents to the SENCo.

Supporting the School

  • To liaise, advise and consult with other members of the Learning Support team.

  • To participate in relevant professional development.

  • To be aware of and follow school policies and procedures.

  • To maintain confidentiality about home-school/pupil-teacher/school work matters.

  • To complete any other task as directed by the Headteacher / SENCo.

Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task undertaken may not be identified. The post holder is expected to comply with any reasonable request from the Leadership Team to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description. This job description may be amended at any time following discussion between the HT/Line Manager and will be reviewed regularly.
