Health Day at JAPS!
On Tuesday 2nd February Jebel Ali Primary School ran its 3rd Health Day. Children had a great day learning about staying fit and eating healthily.
The children were lucky enough to have a variety of people offering their time and expertise to make the day enjoyable. To kick the day off, we had three cricketing legends come in and speak to the children. In assembly Rodney Marsh (ex Australian wicket keeper), Dayle Hadlee (ex New Zealand bowler and coach) and Mudassar Nazar (ex Pakistani all rounder and coach) from the Global Cricket Academy spoke about what it takes to reach the top. They talked about their own childhood and how our kids could improve their health by living a healthy lifestyle.

After the cricketers had spoken, Mr. Nesim Majzoub from Tempur, a pressure relieving mattresses and pillows company and Mr. Evan Drosopoulos from Comfort Plus spoke about the functional aspects of Tempur, the brand's use of NASA technology and how it has changed the lives of many, both for a good night sleep and overall health perspective.

The children then rotated around a variety of activities:
• Fitness First brought four instructors who put the children through their paces.

• The International Football Academy ran a football session.

• Dubai Hurricanes Rugby Club ran a fun rugby session.

• Medcare taught the children to take their own pulse.

• The Organic Foods Café did a tasting the flavour competition, colour in competition and a puppet show with the children.

• Mr Palmer-Myers’ ran an orienteering session.
• The children also made healthy food in class.
At Key Stage 1 there were also a variety of activities including Mrs Fitzgerald’s ever-popular fitness circuit as well as Victoria, a guest dance instructor. Click here to view more of Key Stage 1 activities.

Every child in the school received a ‘Health Day’ t-shirt kindly sponsored by Tempur as well as an Oasis water bottle supplied by NFPC.
Prior to Health Day the children entered a competition to design the back of the t-shirts. Well done to Olivia in Year 5 on her winning design. She was presented with a Tempur teddy bear as her prize.

We were very fortunate to have been supported by such a large number of people and appreciate the involvement of Tempur, Fitness First, NFPC, Dubai Hurricanes Rugby Club, The International Football Academy, The Organic Foods Café, Medcare, Rod, Dayle and Mudassar from The ICC and Victoria the dance instructor in making the day such a success. The children received each an Organic Foods Cafe goody bag with an O2 water, a Cool Sun juice and a cereal bar to take home.

To finish the day off, many Key Stage 2 children took part in the sponsored run while Key Stage 1 pupils enjoyed a sponsored walk. We are still counting how much money has been raised for The Little Wings Foundation, but the total is already getting close to last year’s total of 10,000 dirhams.
